Supervision of safe medicine usage

According to WHO, "the science and activities relating to the detection, assessment, understanding and prevention of adverse effects or any other drug-related problems".

Ensuring safe use of medicines consists of:

  • adverse drug reactions,
  • assessing the risk and probability of its occurrence,
  • identifying new drug-induced complications, drug-drug complications and increasing frequency of their occurrence,
  • periodic assessment of health hazard and benefits from using a medicine and comparing it to other medicines which are used in the same therapeutic indication,
  • informing health service workers and patients.
